Qigong - "The Movement of Now"
Qigong (“chi-Kung”) is a traditional Chinese Mind, Body and Spirit practice that combines slow graceful movements with mental concentration and breathing to increase and balance a person’s vital energy. It is also been used as a means to aid with spiritual awakening.
Qi (or chi) is often translated as life energy, referring to energy circulating through the body and Gong (or kung) is often translated as cultivation or work. The two words are combined to describe a practice to cultivate and balance life energy. If you have good Chi, it promotes good health. |

The benefits of practicing Qigong are the same as Meditation and Tai Chi including reduced anxiety levels, reduced stress levels, improved energy levels and improved physical, spiritual and emotional well-being. One of the beauties of Qigong is its simplicity and you can practice anywhere.
Through simple movements and breathing techniques more Qi will be encouraged to flow and this will help you feel more relaxed and peaceful. Qigong can be described as a standing, moving meditation and is suitable for everyone including people who struggle to sit to meditate. Another advantage of Qigong is you don't have to be particularly fit or flexible when you start so you can pick up many of the forms quickly and then you can feel the benefits straight away. |

"I have just completed a wonderful online 5 day silent retreat where Ian taught us Qigong every morning and evening, and I didn’t imagine that the online format would be so enjoyable and effective. I welcomed each gentle, carefully guided practice which were so helpful to wake up the body and prepare it for long meditation sessions. Ian explained with great care and clarity how to coordinate the flowing movements with slow relaxed breathing, and I experienced deep states of relaxation and well-being. I highly recommend it!"

"Ian is an amazing qigong teacher. I was very resistant to qigong but after attending his sessions I am loving it. His gentle approach and guidance with the movements is incredibly peaceful and the flow of energy can be felt instantaneously throughout the body. I would recommend anyone who needs more peace, love and joy in their lives attend one of Ian’s sessions. They won’t be disappointed."

"I joined a silent retreat in which Ian was teaching qigong twice a day for 5 days. The first morning my muscles were throbbing as usual when I try qigong , there was lots of resistance . As I continued attention was on mind complaining but something beautiful was beginning too happen. My breathing & body just carried on in a lovely rhythm all of its own in an undemanding, understated way. The 2nd day was easier but still mind resistance, by day 4 there was this realisation that my body loved it. The synchronicity between the breathing & movement was so harmonising like a deep peaceful meditation. By day 5 it was pure enjoyment & an opened body. Maybe it’s like this for others but it was new for me. I’m loving this body now & respecting & listening to it & that’s also thanks to Ian's calm beautiful teaching. I can’t tell you what a difference it’s made. The sequences & teachings were so nourishing to this being . A really big heart felt thank you too Ian."

"My first ever experience of Qigong was through Ian's teachings. I was taking a meditation workshop, and he had been invited to start the day off with an hour of Qigong. After that session, I felt so relaxed and present in my body that I had to take more of his classes. I've taken both Qigong and meditation classes from Ian, and his approach to both practices comes from a place of simplicity and efficiency.
Ian's approach to teaching, above all, aims to help you feel at peace and connect with the Home in the Heart, our true nature, that we often overlook in our busy lives. After each class I've taken of Ian's, I become flooded with peace, gratitude, and an awareness of the energetic aspect of my being that keeps me grounded and light when moving through the remainder of my day.
I'm very grateful for the kindness, patience, and compassion Ian brings to class, and every interaction we've had outside of it. It's been very important to me that the teachers I engage with are able to carry and live their message outside of their professional lives, and Ian certainly embodies that standard.
I highly recommend Ian McArthur for anyone interested in learning Qigong or meditation."

"I have been doing Ian's Seated Qi Qong classes now for a few weeks and really enjoying it. I have done standing Qi Qong in the past but had to stop due to developing a painful medical condition of the feet which makes me unable to stand. I discovered Ian's website and saw he gave Qi Qong classes but on contacting him he said he was interested in doing a seated class. I can thoroughly recommend this class, especially for people like myself who cannot partake in the usual classes offered due to medical conditions etc. Ian is a good teacher, explaining the movements, giving us techniques that we can easily practice at home on a daily basis, going over things and adding new movements each class, which is great. As well as being excellent for my wellbeing, it also helps me cope with daily pain, and allows me to get back into a class. I am also doing Ian's meditation class and am finding that very beneficial too."

"I attended this class/event. I enjoyed it.
Because this method involves light, gentle movements It's therefore a tangible method/practice to use for health and well-being (providing and achieving more calm and inner peace in what is or can be a chaotic outer world with the pushes and pulls on the mind and body.
Simple methods were taught.
The host provides a nice, relaxing space - which is important to feel a soothing vibe from the environment when learning a new method."

"I was invited to attend a Qigong class, and as I had never heard of this technique was interested to find out more. The class was lead by Ian who talked through the history of Qigong alongside the demonstration of the different movements. It was informative as well as a restful, peaceful class. I have attended further classes and am learning new techniques each time. I always feel at peace and re-energised after the classes and am practicing the technique at home. Ian is always more than happy to go through any techniques again, either at class or to be contacted between classes. I would recommend this peaceful, relaxing form of exercise. I would highly recommend these classes." - Claire
